Good for quick pick-ups on hardwood but messy to emptyMar 02, 2010 If you want to use this vacuum on any type of carpeting, do not buy it. I do not use it on carpeting. It just doesn't work on my area rugs. I have two dogs and three active boys. It works well on the hardwood floors in the upstairs of my house, and I like that I can carry it on my shoulder with the strap and move around. However, my dogs spend the most time in the downstairs level of my home, and this vacuum can't handle all the hair. The head gets clogged and hair gets stuck all over it. I also find emptying the dirt cup a messy job and the dog hair just won't come right out because of static cling. I always empty it outside, which is a pain when it is really cold or there is snow. It is also very loud compared to other vacuums, both large and small, that I have owned over the years.
Overall it is good for quick-pick ups on hardwood floors or tile. You will find it is a good vacuum for this purpose.
The vacum does what I need it to do for small jobs.Feb 18, 2010 This vacum does what I needed it to do which is touch up vacuming in high traveled areas when I don't want to do a major vacum job.
Not greatFeb 09, 2010 We purchased this vacuum several years ago for our apartment with all wood floors. The unit itself is just awkward. The hose disconnects from the unit every time I vacuum. The attachments fall off or come disconnected while using. Storing the unit is annoying, as it constantly falls over and gets in the way. The suction is mediocre at best. The HEPA filter needs to be replaced frequently, at a cost of $20 to $30 a pop. I would not reccommend this product.
It works, for nowJan 23, 2010 There are many good things about this vacuum: the price is right, it IS very light and it picks up well. I have hardwood floors and 2 cats and it works very well getting rid of all their hair. The noise is pretty horrendous, but I can live with that (even if they can't!) but there are a few areas where Dirt Devil have skimped on design where they, in my opinion, shouldn't have.
Firstly it just feels cheap: the way all the sections of the handle & head fit together is not tight enough so you lose suction. The sections of the handle have a button that slots into a hole on the next section so they're sturdy and tight-ish, but the actual head just fits on loosely so it does, on occasion, fall off when you're vacuuming, but mostly you lose alot of suction here.
Secondly there's a small plastic arm that you can push out to wrap the cord around for storage. It's such a bad design. I've not had the vacuum for very long, but I would put money on this arm not lasting more than 6 months. I'd rather they add a little weight to the machine and had cord storage inside. This also means that when in use you have to unleash all the cord and carry it around so it doesn't get in the way. It's just annoying.
Lastly, I have to take the head off the hoover several times during each use to remove the hair from the brushes and get it into the hoover. My apartment isn't that big but with the cats there's more hair than your average household, however I can't help thinking that if they solved some of the issues with loss of suction I wouldn't have to do this so often.
All in all, it's a decent hoover for hardwood floors, but it feels like a temporary investment that will last a year, maybe slightly longer and then I'll get a different one.
Dirt Devil CanisterJan 12, 2010 If you are a canister person you will like this vacuum. I have had Dirt Devils for a number of years and this is the second vacuum of the same model. My first one lasted for 8 years. I guess you can make and argument for it only lasting 8 years, but at the end of the day, I felt I got my moneys worth out of it. The motor burned out but I liked it enough to get a duplicate. What I like about it are the mobility (easy to maneuver, sling it over your shoulder if you like), light and easy to clean. Just wash the filter on a regular basis in it will last a long time too. The attachments are good and they are strapped to the main tubes making it easy to access. It has a strong suction. Perhaps the only negative is it's a bit loud, but not that bad. I have also had good service for the one time I ordered a replacement filter. Bottom line, it's a good buy.
