You can't really pick & choose the filter you can use with the Eureka 71B - it is what it is! I bought the 71B used & the moment I changed the filter, it was like a brand new vacuum, it made all the difference in the world.
If you're looking at the filter reviews before you buy the vacuum (kinda smart) I'd say that the filter really traps dirt & hair in it and you can't really clean it on your own to prolong it's useful life. You can shake it out, but there isn't a lot you can do with it except replace it eventually. And I expect to replace it often in order to maintain suction.
That being said, I am an Amazon Prime member so it's cheaper for me to buy it here than through Eureka. It would be great to buy 4-packs to have them on-hand.

This filter doesn't fit well.
Which might explain why dust exploded from my vacuum, leaving a fine film of nasty dust across my entire office.

I am really impressed on this filter. It cleans very easily and is very sturdy. I expect it to last a very long time. I bought the extra filter cups to use in between cleaning.

Good to have on hand. The Eureka 71 is a GREAT vacuum, however sooner or later you WILL need this part.
