if you need more convincing . . .Mar 02, 2010 I never write reviews, but after searching once again online for a solution to the many problems we've had with this over the last 2 years, I had to pipe in so hopefully you won't make the same mistake. I actually can't believe they're still selling this piece of junk. It takes forever to run a load, the drain gets clogged easily (a dime or paperclip, left in a pocket will have you working on this for hours unless you want to call a repair man to your house). I seem to only be able to use one type of environmentally unfriendly detergent to keep it from oversudsing, I could go on an on. Stay away from this machine at all costs!!!!
Unmitigated disasterFeb 11, 2010 The person who designed this washer should lose their license.
First of all, the drainage has no filter, so if you accidentally put, say, a penny in the washer - or a pen cap or a button or any other such small, hard item that commonly finds its way into a wash load - it will lodge into the drain pump, which cannot be repaired, only replaced. This happened within several weeks of first using the washer, and took several more weeks to get replaced.
We have a toddler, so the child lock is an important feature. The child lock on this unit is simple for an adult to activate and impossible for a child to release. Only problem is, the child lock does not impact the power button! So in the middle of a load, if your curious child happens to depress THE BIG ATTRACTIVE ON/OFF BUTTON RIGHT ON THE FACE OF THE MACHINE, the washer shuts down in the midst of its cycle. Genius, huh?
But here is the best part. The outer perimeter of the spinning element of the washer is outfitted with a ridged rubber ring. And within that ridge is a cardboard-like substance which, when wet, turns into a slimy, smelly goop. Yes, you read that right. THE INSIDE OF THIS WASHING MACHINE CONTAINS A SUBSTANCE WHICH TRANSFORMS INTO A SLIMY GOOP WHEN WET.
As I said, the person who designed this machine should lose their license. Only that's not good enough. After that he or she should spend the next several years traveling to every household in the country that purchased this unit and apologize.

Do not buy - shoots water out the backJun 29, 2009 The washer has been OK for me except for one feature - it has a pipe connected to the top of the clothes barrel, and sometimes when it is spinning, water comes out the top, through this pipe, and then directly down the back of the washer. This is BY DESIGN. There is no way to connect this to your drain pipe unless you do that yourself, and there isn't even an easy way to do it. I am NOT talking about the normal drain pipe - my machine has that ALSO - and it is connected correctly and works correctly. Maytag designed some kind of overflow to go out the top of the barrel and down the back of the machine - right next to the power cord, even! It took me a while to realize this, and now I've got a slightly rusty machine (where the water drips down) and I have to dry the back of the machine every few uses. Find another machine that does not have this 'feature'.

Headache!Jul 17, 2008 I'm getting ready to replace the door for the second time, and it's not even 3 years old. It stinks and it sounds like there's a rocket taking off every time it spins. To make things even more frustrating, it takes the matching dryer and hour and a half to dry one load. I bought this for it's compact size, but it was a terrible mistake.

mixed feelingsJun 13, 2008 For some reason, my Maytag washing machine just died all of a sudden two weeks ago. However, I did get a pretty good life out of it. I just can't believe there were no warning signs or anything before it went. Just be careful because the same thing might happen to you.
