5perfect for traveling lightJul 10, 2010
This convertible carry-on is perfect. I will use it for all my travels from now on!
It was much lighter and more versatile than those huge camping backpacks we saw other travellers straining under! Of course, we weren't camping, but it was very freeing. Don't get me wrong you still need to be aware of how much weight you want on your back, but it's really amazing how much stuff you can pack into these little gems. Rick Steves delivers what he promises (including the shoulder strap which was a nice surprise) and so does this company. We got our shipment on time to use these on our travels. I would order from this company again.

4Very lightweight backpackJul 06, 2010
Nice light backpack with lots of space. The only problem I had was that the zipper has a tendency to get caught in the fabric sometimes. Note that it doesn't have wheels, but that keeps the weight down.

4Worthy bagJun 24, 2010
I have only taken a couple trips with this but it is working out well. Love being able to grab it by one of the handles, but then quickly sling it over my back for hand's free, comfortable transport.

Lot's of convenient pockets, zippered pouches and storage areas. Light weight without seeming non-durable -- but time will tell here.

Would like to have better/easier straps stowage for when they are not in use -- they tend to catch on things.

Good, thoughtfully designed product.

3Too big to be a carry on!Jun 11, 2010
We just flew United Airlines and I had this bag as my carry-on. When full, it was too big to fit under the seat in front of me. The other thing that bothered me is that it does not have a lot of compartments. Those small zippered pockets in the front are all there is. The inside is just a big space. Finally, it bothered me that I couldn't pull the bag together with the side straps. There is no way to make it tighten into a more compact bag. It's really much bigger than is easily manageable as a carry-on, in my opinion... and if I want to pack that much stuff in a bag, I'd want it to have rollers... I do think it's well made though... never had a problem with quality.

4A Great Bag for Carry-On Only TravelMay 26, 2010
In combination with the Rick Steves packing cubes, this is probably the best way to travel with carry-on only (I think it would be difficult to pack the bag without the packing cubes because there is no frame to the backpack and it seems that the bag could easily get lopsided without something to hold the rectangular shape). The bag definitely hits the limit of carry-on size. On our three flights, it fit perfectly in the overhead bin. The bag can fit a ton of stuff -- if you get the packing cubes, it can fit two whole sets. The slate color looks very classy and I am pleased with this choice. My only complaint would be that the waist strap doesn't work very well. I'm 5'7" and the strap doesn't quite come to my waist. It feels awkward resting just above my waist and on my stomach (seems to defeat the purpose for having the strap). Maybe I need to do more experimenting with how it fits. Even without the waist strap, I had no problems carrying the bag through hotels, airports, train stations, subways, and buses. I don't think that I would use it for long-distance backpacking, though, but for standard travel it was fine.

It includes the over-the-shoulder padded strap, which I didn't even take with me (kind of heavy and doesn't seem very functional).

Overall, traveling with a single carry-on was one of the best ideas for our trip to Europe. There were so many times when I thought to myself how glad I was to only have a carry-on (no huge luggage to haul up and down stairs, no waiting for checked luggage, easier to fit in small European elevators, etc.). The Convertible Carry-On made traveling very easy, especially when coupled with the packing cubes. Highly recommended!
